Unit 6 Blog Exercise

Universal Loving-Kindness
The universal loving-kindness exercise allows one to look outside of themselves as the ones in need, however, to identify those throughout the world whom may be in need.  This exercise allows one to be grateful and thoughtful for what they have and wish for others to experience what they are experiencing or have.  This exercise allows one to clear the mind of negative thoughts and feeling they may have towards others in the environment.

Integral Health Assessment
The assessment process allows one to look at all four aspect of integral health ( psychospiritual, biological, interpersonal, and worldly) and identify which level needs to be further developed to allow the one to complete and develop a high level of integral health.

During both of the exercise I discovered that I am a person that wants universal loving-kindness for all creators and that I already practice this exercise in my daily prayer.  In addition, I discovered that I understand that to have and move to a high level of integral health one must make the connection of all four aspects and develop all six levels associated with integral health.  The area I chose to be of focus of growth and development is worldly flourishing.  The reason is why I have chosen this area is due to that I believe that I need to involve myself into my aspect of the world such as mentoring more, doing more of my missionary duties and becoming more involved with my sons school activities.  The activities I believe that I can do to help me reach and develop a wellness in this area of worldly flourishing, I can visit the sick more in the hospitals and nursing homes, go to the local high schools and encourage the students on how to be productive in life.

Unit 5 Blog Exercise

Mental Meditation

1. Compare and contrast the Loving Kindness exercise and the Subtle mind exercise. Explain your experience including the benefits, frustrations etc.

The subtle mind exercise I found to be very much of a useful tool as much as the loving-kindness exercise. Each one allowed the mind to try to mediate and become more focus on what changes are going on between the mind and body.  Where I can say they differ is that the loving-kindness exercise wanted the individual to respect and understand that you must love everyone for yourself to feel loved.  Now with the the subtle mind exercise, the idea was make the individual understand that many changes can happen mentally and physically if one would let their minds be clear, at peace, and still for all  pollutants around the individual.

2. Discuss the connection of the spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness. Explain how the connection is manifested in your personal life.

Great question.  When I think of the spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness, I must first understand why this connection must exist.  I believe that for a person to gave complete wellness, one must be in tune with their inner mental status and try to allow this status to remain clear from negative thoughts and behaviors.  If one can keep the mental clear the spiritual and physical aspects will fall into place.  Now, if one allows their spiritual to suffer then the mental and physical will began to suffer.  It is like a car.  If the engine which is the mind of the car is not working, how can the car move.  All things must work together for complete and healthy function to take place.

Loving-Kindness

Loving-Kindness

I found the exercise to be very relaxing, however it was somewhat of an issue for me to really dedicate my whole being to the exercise.  The reason I say this is that I am not a person that has a difficult time on visualizing a person that I care deeply about, it was just the persons that where coming to mind.  I believe this exercise allows a person to meditate on those who are either missing in a persons life or those who are very active in a persons life.  This exercise can be both positive and negative.  I really think this exercise would be beneficial for an individual who has learned to have that spiritual and mental connection with not only their inner self but those whom they hold close to their heats.  An example would be for two people who really love each other and they have the mental and spiritual bond, they can feel, smell, and breath for that person even if they are not in their environment.  Now, I can say this exercise can be negative for a person who has just lost a loved one.  To make a person visualize a loved one from a recent lost, can cause more stress and uncomfortable feelings during the exercise.holds resentment against another person.

Mental Workout

2. The concept of a mental workout is help an individual stream and clean their minds of unnecessary garbage that may fill their mind on a daily basis.  If your mind can be clear to absorb positive aspects of life the negative ones more than likely will have less of an affect on that person.  During the process of a mental workout one should be able to open their our mind to unexplainable expanded consciousness levels for which in turn will increase the connection of mind, body, emotions, and spirit.

Unit 3 Post

1. Based on your reflections, and on a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being optimal wellbeing), where do you rate your your A-physical wellbeing, B-spiritual well-being, C-psychological well-being? Why?

I rate my physical wellbeing to be an 8 due to I work out everyday for a hour, eat a well balanced diet, and take the stairs instead of the elevator.  However, I do believe for me to raise my ratings I do need to eat less foods on my plate, increase my workout time, and not allow stress to overcome me.  I rate my spiritual well-being to be a 7 due to I feel that I am close to God but not close enough, I need to understand that things happen for a reason no matter if they are negative or positive, due to there is a lesson to be learned from both, and turn things over and not stress about them when I have meet the decision that nothing can be done by myself only God can fix it.  I rate my psychological well-being at an 8 as well.  I have found ways to help my self encourage myself, keep an open mind about why things happen, and pray when I feel mental drained. Even though I have found ways cope with the normal stresses of life, however I have not mastered how to cope with those things that seem way out of my control.

2. Develop a goal for yourself in each area (physical, spiritual, psychological).

My physical goal would be to lose 13 pounds by May of 2011.  My spiritual goal would be to learn how to let go and let God when things are not of my control.  My psychological goal would be to appreciate the things in my life and be grateful for them.

3. What activities or exercise can you implement in your life to assist in moving toward each goal?

The activities that I can implement into my life to assist in reaching my goals would be for physical increasing my workout time everyday and putting smaller portions of food on my plate.  For spiritual would be to step out of myself when things look rough and pray for guidance and understanding on what I am experiencing in my life at that moment.  Finally, for psychological would be to would be to wake up every morning and meditate on what blessings I have for me and my family and thank God for them.

4. Complete the relaxation exercise The Crime of the Century.  Describe your experience. (What it beneficial? Frustrating? etc.)

While listening to The Crime of the Century, I must say it was very relaxing especially the breathing part.  By breathing deep and slow this allowed me to take my mind off what was running through it all day and concentrate on my physical, psychological and spiritual connections.  I was not pleased with the color changes and trying to imagine bright colors shinning through windows that were suppose to be located on my body.  To me the thought of bright colors is not calming at all.  However, what I did appreciate was the descriptions of what each part of the body stood for and the statements to repeat which gave me the chance to encourage myself and appreciate what God has designed my being for.
